Tashkent, Kabul Discuss Cooperation on Urban Development

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Delegations from Tashkent and Kabul discussed prospects for cooperation in urban management, infrastructure development, urbanisation and investment. The meeting was held in Kabul as part of the Uzbek-Afghan business forum.

The Tashkent hokimiyat delegation was led by Deputy Hokim Sharof Rakhmanov. Kabul Deputy Mayor Mohammad Asif Jalalzai represented the Afghan side.

Kabul officials said an investment portfolio of 234 projects had been formed, 168 of which are in the construction sector. The Afghan side also presented information on projects involving road and canal construction, bus stop development, urban improvement, waste management, regulation of urban development and the introduction of digital management systems.

The Kabul side expressed interest in studying Tashkent’s experience and holding seminars and masterclasses with the participation of relevant specialists. It also expressed interest in cooperation with Tashkent companies working in infrastructure and public utilities.

Representatives of the Tashkent hokimiyat said they were ready to study the projects presented by Kabul in detail, noting that companies in the capital have experience and expertise in the areas identified.

The sides separately discussed opportunities for cooperation through public-private partnerships, the development of transport and public utilities infrastructure, and the implementation of renovation projects.

Following the meeting, the Kabul delegation was invited to visit Tashkent to learn about projects being implemented and the capital’s practical experience.
