Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The first block train on the China-Iran route has been launched through Uzbekistan, the press service of Uztemiryulkonteyner said.
A subsidiary of Uzbekistan Railways participated in organizing the new route. The first train, consisting of 55 wagons, is carrying automotive components, consumer goods and other consolidated cargo.
The route starts at Chengxiang station in China and runs through Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to the border station of Sarakhs. The total route length exceeds 6,000 km.
Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) received the train at the Khorgos-Altynkol border crossing. On 7 September, the train departed from Altynkol station along the designated route.
At the next stage, the block train will enter Uzbekistan through Keles station before heading to Turkmenistan via Khodzhadovlet station. According to estimates, it is expected to reach its destination within 14–16 days.
Uztemiryulkonteyner said it plans to establish regular container block train services along the China-Central Asia-Iran corridor in the future.
In June this year, the company also conducted a test shipment from Southeast Asia to Tajikistan. A container carrying palm oil was transported from Malaysia’s Port Klang to Dushanbe in 32 days, including 15 days by sea and 17 days by rail.
