Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s textile group Global Textile and US organisation Make American Cotton Great Again (MACGA) have signed a memorandum of understanding worth US$35 million.

The document was signed in Samarkand during events held alongside the C5+1 ministerial meeting involving Uzbekistan, other Central Asian countries and the United States.

On the sidelines of the meeting, a delegation from the Ferghana region, led by regional deputy hokim Islомjon Madaminov, held talks with representatives of US companies and organisations.

Participants included Make American Cotton Great Again, Honeywell International, Integrated Global Services (IGS), Air Products, Siguler Gulf, ITF Group and Logan University. Representatives of the Ferghana Oil Refinery, Quartz joint-stock company and Global Textile also took part in the discussions.

The parties explored opportunities to introduce new technologies and automate production processes at the oil refinery, protect industrial equipment against corrosion, and improve energy efficiency in glass manufacturing.

In particular, the discussions covered the use of oxy-fuel technology in glass-melting furnaces to reduce natural gas consumption.

The development of cooperation in the textile industry was another focus of the talks. The participants reached agreements in several areas, although further details were not provided.

The memorandum signed by MACGA and Global Textile was one of the concrete outcomes of the meetings, which aimed to expand business ties between the Ferghana region and US partners and promote joint projects.
