Ferghana Region Launches Karkidon Eco-Tourism Complex
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A large-scale cultural and entertainment event, including a gala concert dedicated to the development of a new eco-tourism complex, was held in Kuva district of Uzbekistan’s Ferghana region at the Karkidon reservoir.
The project is being implemented on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan and is aimed at developing the tourism potential of the region, boosting the economy, and creating new jobs.
Opening the event, Deputy Hokim of Ferghana region Sherzod Polvonov said that Karkidon is entering a new stage of development and is becoming one of the most promising tourist destinations in the Ferghana Valley.
According to him, the site, originally built in 1967 as a water reservoir, is now being developed not only as a water management infrastructure facility but also as a tourism brand of the region.
As part of the event, a gala concert featuring artists was held, along with sports competitions, national games, children’s entertainment programs, and stunt motorcycle performances. Visitors also had the opportunity to take boat rides and explore the new infrastructure of the complex.
According to official information, a large-scale eco-tourism project is being implemented on an area of 250 hectares under Presidential Decree No. PP-132.
At present, 57 guest houses, 45 chalets, as well as restaurants and cafes have been prepared for operation. More than 20 recreational zones have been reconstructed.
Within the framework of the project, an irrigation system has been developed across 200 hectares, and more than 100,000 trees and shrubs have been planted. Recreational zones, a flower park, an agrotourism cluster, and lavender fields have also been planned.
A key feature of the complex is the combination of eco-tourism, agrotourism, and active recreation. Facilities include a motocross track, a cable car, and karting areas, positioning Karkidon as one of the largest tourism centers in the region.
