Ferghana region expands cooperation with Japanese companies

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from the Ferghana region led by regional governor Khayrullo Bozorov held a series of meetings in Tokyo with Japanese companies and development institutions, during which projects in IT, artificial intelligence, agriculture, medicine, logistics, and industry were discussed, along with the signing of a number of cooperation agreements and memorandums.

During talks with representatives of companies operating in the field of information technology and artificial intelligence, the sides discussed the potential of the Ferghana region, existing sector opportunities, and recent development results.

Following the meetings, memorandums of cooperation were signed and agreements were reached on cooperation with leading Japanese IT and AI companies, as well as on the development of industry infrastructure and the effective use of the region’s youth workforce potential.

Separately, the regional governor held a meeting with the executive director of Fujikura Kasei Co., Ltd., Takahiro Ishi. The parties discussed the implementation of joint projects, including the company’s proposal to establish production of medical testing reagents in the region. The sides also noted intentions to further expand cooperation.

Earlier, the regional delegation held talks with Tokyo Seika Trading Co., Ltd. and Toyo Trans Incorporation, where projects related to the export of fruits and vegetables, processing, storage, and the development of logistics chains were considered.

Japanese companies expressed interest in supplying agricultural products from the Ferghana region to the Japanese market. As a result of one of the meetings, a cooperation agreement was signed.

In addition, during a separate series of negotiations, Japanese companies expressed interest in expanding imports of fruits and vegetables grown in the Ferghana region, as well as in developing agricultural processing and logistics systems.

The sides discussed opportunities for building sustainable export chains and expanding the presence of Uzbek products in the Japanese market.

Special attention was given to a meeting between the governor of the Ferghana region and representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The parties discussed expanding cooperation and prospects for joint projects in infrastructure, ecology, education, and energy.

Proposals were considered for implementing a pilot “Smart Water Management” project, establishing a “Green Industrial Park,” and launching a Ferghana–Japan vocational education center.

JICA expressed readiness to consider cooperation with the region as one of its priority areas.

Following all meetings, the sides confirmed their intention to expand mutually beneficial cooperation and develop joint projects across various sectors of the economy.
