EU and UNDP present regional development master plans for Samarkand's Nurabad district

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Renata Wrobel, the Chargé d'Affaires of the European Union Delegation to Uzbekistan, and Akiko Fujii, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Uzbekistan, conducted a joint field visit to the Nurabad district of the Samarkand region to review local development initiatives and meet with the district's Governor (Khokim).

During the high-level meeting, the delegation unveiled comprehensive territorial master plans engineered to modernize public infrastructure, unlock the region's hidden tourism potential, and elevate the overall quality of life for the local population.

The strategy papers were engineered within the framework of the joint project titled "Further Improvement of Public Services Delivery in Uzbekistan," which is funded entirely by the European Union and implemented globally by the UNDP alongside the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan.

The detailed master plans target three primary zones within the region: the central urban hub of the Nurabad district, the Nurbulak health and wellness village, and the historic Hazrat Dawood pilgrimage complex. The long-term implementation of these planning blueprints is expected to stimulate sustainable local economic growth, channel incoming private capital investments, and generate new socio-economic opportunities for rural residents.

On a practical level, the design layouts mandate the comprehensive landscaping of public spaces, the expansion of safe pedestrian transport infrastructure, and the complete modernization of thermal and wellness medical clinics. Additionally, the plans introduce structural zoning adjustments to dramatically expand the district's capacity for hosting religious, heritage, and ecological tourism, aligning the region with contemporary environmental standards.
