Authorities Investigate Tashkent Road Damage Incident

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Authorities are investigating the cause of severe road damage that occurred on Glinka Street in Tashkent's Yakkasaray district on Thursday, 3 September 2026, the press service of the Yakkasaray district administration reported. District Governor Nilufar Allabergenova visited the site to inspect the aftermath.

District officials noted that work to replace aging utility pipes and infrastructure had recently taken place on Glinka Street. The newly installed pipes had passed strength and operational testing but had not yet been commissioned at the time of the incident.

Videos published on social media captured a loud sound resembling an explosion, followed by a cloud of dust rising over the area. The road surface subsequently collapsed, scattering debris across tens of meters. Several passing vehicles sustained damage, and officials confirmed one person was injured.

Following the incident, the affected section of the street was closed to traffic while emergency crews worked to clear the site. Drivers have been requested to use alternative routes.

Capital utility companies responsible for heat, water, and gas supply reported that the incident was not linked to their networks.

Veolia Energy Tashkent, the capital's district heating operator, stated that heating pipelines were undamaged. The company clarified that the 1,240-meter main pipeline installed this year was empty and operating without water or pressure. The incident is not related to the operation or rupture of heating networks, Veolia Energy Tashkent said.

Specialists from regional gas provider Hududgaz Poytaht also inspected the area and detected no natural gas leaks, confirming that no high-pressure gas pipelines run through the site of the incident.

With heating and gas utility failures ruled out by service providers, relevant authorities are continuing efforts to identify the cause of the damage and complete cleanup operations
