Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Tashkent authorities have clarified that registration at conscription offices in Uzbekistan is intended to place citizens on military records and assess their fitness for military service, and does not mean they will be immediately drafted into the army.
The Tashkent city administration issued the clarification amid discussions on social media about a decision by the capital's mayor dated 5 October 2026, No. 502-14-0-Q/26, which provides for the organisation of the relevant procedures.
Under Article 18 of Uzbekistan's Law on Universal Military Duty and Military Service, registration is conducted to determine citizens' fitness for military service and assess their general education and physical preparedness.
The legislation stipulates that these procedures are organised in October and November of the final year of study at general secondary, secondary specialised and primary vocational education institutions.
The city administration explained that registration involves placing citizens on military records and verifying the necessary information. Conscription itself is a separate process carried out in accordance with the procedure established by law.
The mayor's decision is intended to ensure the timely organisation of registration activities, coordinate the work of the responsible agencies and conduct medical examinations in accordance with established procedures.
District defence affairs departments, educational institutions, medical organisations and citizens' self-governing bodies are involved in the process. Their cooperation is intended to ensure that registration is carried out in an organised manner and that citizens are informed about its purpose and procedures.
All activities must comply with current legislation. The organisations responsible for the process are required to respect citizens' rights and legitimate interests and explain the procedures for military registration.
