Arsenal and Bayern Reach Champions League Semis

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — English club Arsenal played out a goalless draw with Portugal’s Sporting in the second-leg quarterfinal of the UEFA Champions League and secured progression to the next stage of the tournament.

The match in London ended 0–0, with both teams registering just one shot on target. Arsenal’s advantage was established in the first leg, where the London side secured a 1–0 away victory. On aggregate, Arsenal advanced to the semifinals, where they will face Atlético Madrid.

It is noted that Arsenal have reached the Champions League semifinals in consecutive seasons for the first time. Last year, the team was eliminated at the same stage by eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain.

In another quarterfinal, Bayern Munich defeated Real Madrid in a high-scoring match in Munich, winning 4–3 to secure their place in the semifinals. Bayern’s goals were scored by Aleksandar Pavlovic (6th minute), Harry Kane (38th), Luis Díaz (89th), and Michael Olise in stoppage time (90+4).

For Real Madrid, Arda Güler scored twice (1st and 29th minutes), while Kylian Mbappé added another goal in the 42nd minute.

Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga was sent off in the 86th minute, while Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany received a yellow card in the 44th minute and will miss the next Champions League match.

It is also noted that for the first time in history, Real Madrid’s starting lineup did not include a Spanish player, according to Opta statistics. Harry Kane became the first player to register goal contributions in five consecutive Champions League matches against Real Madrid.

Following both legs, Bayern advanced with a 6–4 aggregate score and will face Paris Saint-Germain in the semifinals, the current holders of the title.
