Uzbekistan's Children's Ombudsman Received 1,147 Appeals in H1

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan's Children's Ombudsman received 1,147 appeals during the first half of 2026, officials said at a briefing held by the information service of the Oliy Majlis Commissioner for the Rights of the Child, where the office presented its results for the reporting period.

Following the review of appeals and inspections, eight criminal cases and 15 administrative offence cases related to violence against children were initiated.

Prosecutors also overturned six decisions refusing to open criminal cases after finding them unfounded, and the materials were sent for additional review.

During the first six months of 2026, staff of the Children's Ombudsman's office made 56 visits to closed institutions housing minors. During the monitoring visits, they held individual and group meetings with more than 1,289 children.

In response to violations of children's rights identified during the reporting period, prosecutors issued nine prosecutorial response measures, including four submissions, three warnings and two opinions.

As part of efforts to improve legislation, proposals were prepared for 43 draft legal and regulatory acts concerning the protection of children's rights.

To promote legal awareness and increase public knowledge of national legislation and international standards on child protection, 1,048 materials were published in the media.

Together with UNICEF, the Children's Ombudsman conducted a sociological survey involving more than 9,500 children to assess awareness of the Law on the Protection of Children from All Forms of Violence.

In addition, with the assistance of the Children's Ombudsman and foreign and national government authorities, 22 children who had been outside Uzbekistan were returned to the country.
