Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A technical mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has begun work at Uzbekistan's Customs Committee to support the further improvement of customs administration in line with international standards.

At a meeting attended by Deputy Chairperson of the Customs Committee N. Musamukhamedov and the head of the mission, IMF Fiscal Affairs Department expert Muhammad Ehteshamul Haq, the parties discussed key areas of cooperation.

Particular attention was given to reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan's customs sector. Participants reviewed measures to improve the risk management system, strengthen customs audit, accelerate digitalisation, enhance information and communications infrastructure and cybersecurity, and further develop the Customs Committee's medium- and long-term strategy in accordance with international standards.

The parties noted that cooperation with the IMF contributes to the modernisation of customs administration, the introduction of modern management practices, the adoption of international best practices and the simplification of foreign trade procedures.

As part of the technical mission, practical meetings, presentations and expert discussions are scheduled through 31 July with Customs Committee specialists responsible for risk management, customs audit, information and communications technology, cybersecurity, strategic planning and customs facilitation.

Following the mission, a package of practical recommendations and proposals is expected to be prepared to support the further development of Uzbekistan's customs system.
