Uzbekistan Tightens Fire Safety Penalties

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a law introducing amendments to several legislative acts aimed at strengthening liability for violations of fire safety regulations in Uzbekistan.

According to the amendments made to the Code of Administrative Responsibility, violations of fire safety requirements at enterprises, organizations, public venues, warehouses, dormitories, and residential buildings, as well as during the design, construction, and reconstruction of facilities, will result in fines ranging from 1 to 3 base calculation units for individuals.

For officials, fines are set between 3 and 10 base calculation units, increased from the previous range of 3 to 7 units.

The document also expands the powers of state fire supervision authorities. The Chief State Fire Inspector and their deputies are now authorized to review administrative offense cases and impose fines on officials of up to 25 base calculation units, compared to the previous limit of 20.

In addition, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has been granted the authority to suspend the activities of businesses in accordance with established procedures in order to prevent fires, emergencies, and threats to life and public health.

The law will come into force three months after its official publication.
