Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Committee for Food Safety has stopped the illegal import of 39.5 tonnes of mandarins delivered to the Food City market in two trucks.

The committee’s compliance and anti-corruption department conducted the inspection based on operational information, discovering mandarins that had not been declared in the phytosanitary certificate.

The inspection found that the shipment lacked both a phytosanitary certificate confirming the products’ safety and an expert assessment certifying that they were fit for consumption.

The investigation is continuing jointly with the Customs Committee. The inspector who prepared the vehicle-opening report has been temporarily suspended from duty, and an internal investigation is under way.

The committee urged businesses to conduct food import and export operations in accordance with the law.

Reports of corruption or violations within the committee can be made via its hotline at 71 202-64-64.
