Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis has approved in its first reading a bill introducing amendments and additions to the Law on Universal Military Duty and Military Service to improve the procedures for military service.

The bill aims to enhance the prestige of military service, ensure the training of qualified personnel and create conditions for more effective use of their professional potential.

The proposed legislation establishes a legal framework for concluding new contracts with graduates of military higher education institutions in Uzbekistan and foreign military universities specialising in pilot training.

Another proposed measure concerns conscripts who achieve outstanding results in a national book-reading competition.

The bill proposes reducing their military service term by one month. According to the authors of the initiative, the measure is intended to promote reading among military personnel and develop their intellectual and cultural potential.

The new provisions are also expected to enable more effective use of military pilots’ qualifications and experience to further develop military aviation and strengthen the professional capacity of the Armed Forces.
