Uzbekistan Sets New Electricity Demand Record

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has set new records for electricity consumption and generation amid extreme heat, the Ministry of Energy said.

On 18 July 2026, despite the weekend, daily electricity consumption in the country's Unified Energy System reached 294.4 million kWh, marking a new summer record. The figure was 21.8 million kWh, or 8%, higher than the previous record set during last summer and 1 million kWh, or 0.34%, above the level recorded on 17 July. Peak demand on the power system reached 13.7 GW during the evening hours.

The country also set a new record for daily electricity generation. Power plants produced 297.1 million kWh on 18 July, up by 1 million kWh, or 0.34%, from the previous record established a day earlier.

According to the ministry, high temperatures persisted on 19 July despite it being a Sunday, with demand on the power system reaching 13.4 GW, indicating consistently high electricity consumption during the weekend.

The ministry also reported a number of temporary power outages in several districts of Tashkent on 18 July caused by technical faults in electricity networks and energy facilities.

In the morning, power disruptions affected around 900 consumers in the Korakamysh residential area of Almazar district. Later, emergency outages were recorded in the Chilanzar, Mirzo-Ulugbek, Mirabad, Yunusabad, Uchtepa, Yashnabad and other districts of the capital. At different times, outages temporarily affected between several hundred and 2,700 consumers.

In all cases, specialists promptly repaired the faults and fully restored electricity supplies.

The Ministry of Energy said emergency response and dispatch services across the energy sector continue to operate under an enhanced режим due to the increased load on the power system.
