Uzbekistan Senate Discusses Expanded Migration Cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Chair of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva held a meeting with Arthur Erken, Regional Director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for Europe and Central Asia, to discuss migration regulation and strengthening international cooperation in this area.
The main focus of the talks was ensuring safe, orderly, and legal migration, as well as measures to counter human trafficking and protect the rights and interests of migrant workers. The parties also considered prospects for expanding joint projects between Uzbekistan and the International Organization for Migration, improving preventive mechanisms, and studying international experience in migration governance.
The sides exchanged views on emerging challenges linked to the development of digital technologies. They emphasized the need to strengthen measures to prevent modern forms of human trafficking, including crimes carried out through online platforms and mechanisms of virtual exploitation.
During the meeting, it was noted that Uzbekistan is consistently implementing policies aimed at protecting human rights in the migration sphere.
This includes systematic efforts to combat illegal migration and human trafficking, support organized forms of labor migration, ensure legal and social protection for migrants, and provide professional and language training.
Particular attention is being given to ensuring safe working conditions for citizens abroad and supporting returning migrants.
Following the talks, an initiative was put forward to hold an international conference in the Senate this year, dedicated to 30 July — the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons and the International Migrants Day.
