Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan's Senate has approved changes to the administrative boundaries of Kizirik and Jarkurgan districts in Surkhandarya region, transferring 4,740 hectares of territory from Jarkurgan district to Kizirik district. The issue was considered at the Senate's 19th plenary session.
Around 4,200 people, comprising 710 families, live in the transferred territory. Before the change in administrative affiliation, residents had to travel to the centre of Jarkurgan district to pay taxes and utility bills, receive social benefits and pensions, and resolve other administrative matters. The distance to the district centre is 18–20 kilometres.
The boundary change is expected to make access to government services more convenient and reduce the time required to resolve administrative issues.
The transfer will also expand opportunities for more efficient use of land and water resources. In particular, the installation of four water-pumping stations on the Chap Tarmok canal will allow more than 500 hectares of land to be developed.
Senators stressed the importance of incorporating part of Jarkurgan district into Kizirik district while taking into account residents' interests, employment issues and the need to use the territory's economic potential efficiently.
Following the discussion, the Senate adopted the relevant resolution.
