Uzbekistan Reports Over 577,000 Active Enterprises
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As of 1 April 2026, Uzbekistan had 577,200 active enterprises and organizations, according to the National Statistics Committee. Small enterprises and microfirms accounted for 417,300 entities, or 72.3 percent of the total.
Regionally, the highest concentration of businesses was recorded in Tashkent city, which accounts for 19.0 percent of all enterprises. It is followed by Tashkent region with 9.4 percent, Samarkand region with 9.3 percent, Ferghana region with 8.5 percent, and Kashkadarya region with 7.7 percent.
By type of economic activity, trade remains the leading sector, accounting for 27.3 percent of all operating enterprises. Agriculture, forestry, and fisheries rank second with 22.1 percent, while industry ranks third with 10.6 percent. Together, these three sectors represent 60 percent of all active businesses.
In terms of organizational and legal structure, limited liability companies dominate the market. Of 422,000 commercial enterprises, 335,100, or 79.4 percent, are registered as LLCs, confirming this as the most common business form in the country.
Special attention in the statistics is given to enterprises with foreign investment. As of the reporting date, their total number reached 19,072, including 4,392 joint ventures and 14,680 fully foreign-owned companies.
The largest share of such companies is concentrated in Tashkent city at 62.9 percent, followed by Tashkent region at 13.5 percent, Samarkand region at 3.7 percent, and Fergana region at 3.3 percent. Over the past five years, the total number of foreign-invested enterprises has increased 1.4 times, while the share of fully foreign-owned firms rose from 55.5 percent to 77.0 percent.
Compared to the same period in 2025, the number of foreign-invested enterprises increased by 3,333, or 21.2 percent. Growth was recorded in trade (from 5,686 to 6,814 enterprises), industry (from 3,304 to 3,831), and construction (from 1,146 to 1,544).
China remains the leading investor country, accounting for 5,398 enterprises, or 28.3 percent of all foreign-invested companies. It is followed by Russia with 17.1 percent, Türkiye with 11.5 percent, Kazakhstan with 6.5 percent, South Korea with 3.7 percent, and Afghanistan with 3.4 percent.
