Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — An initiative has been launched to designate Yangikozgon mahalla in Konimekh district of Uzbekistan’s Navoi region as a “Tourist Village,” with the aim of developing tourism infrastructure, creating jobs and increasing local incomes.
According to Uzbekistan’s Tourism Committee, the mahalla currently has 21 family-run guesthouses and seven yurt camps. Five types of additional services are also available to tourists.
The development of tourism facilities has provided permanent employment for around 100 previously unemployed residents, including women.
Yangikozgon attracts visitors with its natural landscapes, national traditions and distinctive local way of life. These features create opportunities to develop gastronomic, ethnographic and rural tourism.
The proposed designation is expected to expand the range of tourism services, support local entrepreneurs and attract new investment.
The initiative also aims to raise the profile of Navoi region as a tourist destination both in Uzbekistan and abroad.
