Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan plans to develop sports tourism through international cricket competitions and themed travel programmes under a cooperation agreement signed on 19 October 2026 by the Project Office for Tourism Product Development, a state institution under the Tourism Committee, and the Uzbekistan Cricket Federation, the committee said.
Under the memorandum, the parties intend to organise the Uzbekistan International Cricket & Tourism Cup and the Silk Road Cricket Festival annually. The initiative aims to attract international visitors and promote Uzbekistan's tourism potential abroad.
The project envisages the development of tourism packages combining cricket competitions with visits to the country's cultural and historical attractions. Planned itineraries will include Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva.
The organisers also intend to establish cooperation with tour operators, hotels, airlines, railway companies, artisans and entertainment complexes. This is expected to enable them to offer international players and supporters comprehensive services combining participation in sporting events with travel across Uzbekistan.
The initiative is aimed in particular at attracting visitors from countries where cricket is popular, including the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
The organisers expect the initiative to increase tourist flows to Uzbekistan's regions, expand international ties and create additional economic opportunities in the tourism sector.
