Uzbekistan May Reinstate Correspondence Education Mode

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The correspondence form of education in Uzbekistan remains preserved in current legislation and may be reinstated if necessary. This was stated on April 15 at a press conference by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Kongratbay Sharipov.

According to the minister, reports claiming that correspondence education has been completely abolished are not accurate. He emphasized that this form of study is currently assessed as insufficiently in demand, but it has not been legally canceled.

Sharipov noted that the resumption of admissions to correspondence programs is possible if there is demand for qualified personnel in enterprises or a shortage of specialists in certain sectors of the economy. At the same time, he said that if such a need emerges in the coming years, the system would be able to quickly restore the relevant programs.

The minister also stated that correspondence education is gradually being replaced by distance learning formats, which allow working citizens to obtain education without interrupting their professional activities. In this context, the suspension of admissions to correspondence programs does not limit access to education for working adults.

He added that the decision to reduce correspondence enrollment is also linked to efforts to ensure higher quality in the educational process.
