Uzbekistan joins Singapore Convention on Mediation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a law on the country’s accession to the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation, adopted in New York in 2018 and also known as the Singapore Convention on Mediation. The law was promulgated on 14 August 2026.
The law was adopted by the Legislative Chamber on 4 August 2026 and approved by the Senate on 8 August 2026.
Under the law, Uzbekistan is acceding to the convention with two reservations.
The first reservation, made under Article 8(1)(a) of the convention, provides that Uzbekistan will not apply its provisions to settlement agreements to which the state itself, any government institution of Uzbekistan or any person acting on behalf of such an institution is a party.
The second reservation, made under Article 8(1)(b), provides that Uzbekistan will apply the convention only when the parties to a settlement agreement have agreed to apply the convention to their relationship.
The law was signed in Tashkent on 14 August 2026 under No. ZRU-1167.
