Uzbekistan Green Power Output Rises 23% in 2026
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy reported a significant increase in renewable energy generation, reducing reliance on natural gas-based power production.
According to official data, hydroelectric, solar and wind power plants generated a combined 9.8 billion kWh of electricity from the beginning of 2026 through 15 June. This is 1.8 billion kWh more than in the same period last year, representing a 23% increase in clean energy generation.
Total electricity production in the country also continued its upward trend. All power generation facilities produced 42.2 billion kWh from the beginning of the year, up 6% or 2.3 billion kWh compared with the same period in 2025. The ministry attributed the growth to large-scale modernization and the commissioning of new energy facilities.
At present, Uzbekistan’s energy system comprises 157 power plants of various types, with a combined installed capacity of 27,343 MW. Thermal power plants and combined heat and power stations remain the dominant source of electricity, accounting for 17,774 MW of capacity.
Renewable energy and supporting systems continue to expand. Hydroelectric power plants account for 2,442 MW of capacity, solar photovoltaic plants for 3,930 MW, and wind power plants for 1,652 MW.
In addition, industrial battery energy storage systems have become an important component of grid stability and balancing. Their total installed capacity currently stands at 1,545 MW.
