Uzbekistan Foils Drug Smuggling Hidden in Nuts Shipment
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s customs authorities, together with the State Security Service, have thwarted an attempt to smuggle narcotics into the country through an international courier shipment sent from Thailand.
According to the agencies, the declaration listed dried fruits and sweets. However, during inspection at the Tashkent-Aero customs post, officers became suspicious of packaged nuts due to inconsistencies in the logistics and declared contents.
A detailed examination revealed that narcotic substances had been concealed inside part of the nut shells. Following operational measures, a 43-year-old man who received the parcel was detained in the Sergeli district of Tashkent.
A forensic examination concluded that marijuana with a total weight of 285.4 grams had been discovered inside 120 nuts.
A criminal case has been opened in connection with the incident, and the materials have been handed over to investigative authorities for further proceedings.
