Excavation Edge Collapses at Construction Site in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The edge of an excavation pit collapsed at a residential construction site on Beruni Street in Tashkent, near the Beruni metro station.
The incident occurred in close proximity to a nine-storey residential building.
According to the Tashkent city administration, the situation is under the personal supervision of Tashkent Mayor Shavkat Umurzakov.
On his instructions, a special commission was promptly established with the participation of representatives of the Emergency Situations Department, the Construction and Housing and Utilities Control Inspectorate, the prosecutor's office, the Almazar district administration and other relevant agencies.
The authorities are taking immediate measures to eliminate risks to public safety, secure the hazardous area and restrict access. Specialists are examining the site to determine the cause of the incident and assess the condition of the surrounding area, the road surface and utility infrastructure.
Reports circulated on social media suggesting that someone may have been injured. However, the city administration said that, as of the time of publication, no one had sought medical assistance.
Following the inspection, the actions of those responsible will be subject to legal assessment. The city administration said that anyone found to have violated urban planning legislation or construction regulations would be held accountable in accordance with the law.
The administration also urged all participants in the construction sector to strictly comply with safety requirements and existing building regulations.
