Uzbekistan, FAO Discuss Expanding Agricultural Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) plan to expand cooperation in science, innovation and modern agricultural technologies.

The plans were discussed by Uzbekistan's Minister of Agriculture Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov and FAO Deputy Director-General Maurizio Martina on the sidelines of the 30th session of the Committee on Agriculture (COAG), taking place in Rome from 20 to 24 July 2026.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the current state of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the FAO and discussed priorities for its further development, including the expansion of joint projects and programmes.

Particular attention was given to the initiative to establish an FAO Centre of Excellence in Tashkent.

The proposed centre is expected to serve as a platform for demonstrating advanced international agricultural technologies and global best practices.

According to the participants, the centre would make it possible to test modern technological solutions under Uzbekistan's natural and climatic conditions, support their practical implementation and expand the exchange of expertise in agriculture with other countries.

At the conclusion of the talks, the two sides reaffirmed their intention to elevate cooperation between Uzbekistan and the FAO to a new level, with a particular focus on joint initiatives in science, innovation and modern technologies.

At the end of the meeting, Abdurakhmonov wished Martina success in the upcoming election for the post of FAO Director-General.
