Uzbekistan Extradites Wanted Suspect From Egypt

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A suspect described as a particularly dangerous criminal has been extradited to Uzbekistan from the Arab Republic of Egypt after being on the international wanted list for an extended period, the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Uzbekistan said.

According to the bureau, the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Uzbekistan played a key coordinating role in organising international cooperation. Working together with the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Cairo, it ensured the оперативный exchange of information, coordinated the international search, facilitated cooperation between the competent authorities of the two countries, and arranged the timely transfer of materials required for the suspect's arrest and subsequent extradition.

The bureau said the man had been placed on the international wanted list at the request of Uzbekistan's law enforcement authorities on charges of extortion and several other serious crimes.

During the international search, authorities tracked the suspect's cross-border movements and confirmed that he was in Egypt. After receiving information through Interpol channels, the Egyptian authorities detained him.

Following consideration of Uzbekistan's extradition request, the Egyptian side decided to extradite the suspect. After the completion of the necessary international legal procedures, he was handed over to officers of Uzbekistan's National Central Bureau of Interpol and returned to the country to face criminal prosecution in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The National Central Bureau of Interpol said the extradition was another example of effective international police cooperation and coordination between the law enforcement authorities of the two countries.
