Uzbekistan electric vehicle imports nearly double in first half

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Passenger car imports to Uzbekistan reached US$778.2 million in January–June 2026, up from US$530.2 million during the same period in 2025, according to data from the Customs Committee. In quantitative terms, imports grew by 66.5%, increasing from 32,300 to 53,800 units.

Electric vehicles made the primary contribution to this growth. Imports of electric cars increased by 81.6% in the first half of the year, rising from 20,900 to 37,900 units, while their value grew from US$292.9 million to US$447.7 million. Electric vehicles accounted for 57.5% of all expenditures on passenger car imports.

Hybrid vehicles, which run on gasoline and electricity, showed even higher growth rates. Imports of hybrids increased 3.5 times, rising from 1,850 to 6,531 units, while the value of these deliveries increased from US$38.9 million to US$152.2 million.

In contrast, imports of gasoline-powered cars declined, falling from 9,517 to 9,384 units in quantity and from US$196.4 million to US$176.8 million in value. Imports of diesel passenger cars remained negligible, decreasing from 87 to 19 units.

Consequently, vehicles with electric powertrains—both fully electric and hybrid—accounted for 82.5% of imported passenger cars by quantity and approximately 77% by value in the first half of 2026, compared to a combined quantitative share of 70.3% a year earlier.
