Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has denied social media reports claiming that the country plans to introduce criminal liability for the sale, delivery and ordering of so-called “virginity capsules”, as well as for surgical virginity restoration.
The posts claimed that the initiative was being discussed in parliament amid reports of divorces linked to such cases.
The authors also cited figures alleging that more than 187,000 women who were not virgins had been identified over the past five years.
In addition, reports circulated claiming that the state planned to offer financial rewards to people who reported such cases to law enforcement agencies.
The Legislative Chamber said the information was false.
According to the lower house of parliament, no draft law containing such provisions exists. It has neither been submitted for consideration nor discussed.
The public has been urged not to spread unverified information and to check reports against official sources.
