Uzbekistan defines Energy Ministry role in nuclear sector
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a law introducing amendments and additions to the Law “On the Use of Atomic Energy for Peaceful Purposes”.
Under the document, the Agency for Atomic Energy under the Cabinet of Ministers is designated as the authorized state body in the field of nuclear energy use.
At the same time, the powers of the Ministry of Energy have been clarified. According to the amendments, the ministry will participate within its competence, together with the authorized agency, in forming the balance of electricity production and consumption, including accounting for electricity generated by nuclear power plants.
The Ministry of Energy will also be involved in the development of state and sectoral programs related to the use of nuclear energy.
The law enters into force on the date of its official publication.
