Uzbekistan Cuts Speed Limit on Tashkent–Andijan Highway
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The People's Deputies Council of Tashkent region has introduced new speed restrictions on the A373 international highway connecting Tashkent and Andijan, specifically targeting the kilometer 103–131 segment passing through Akhangaran district.
Under the new rules, the maximum permitted speed for passenger vehicles — categories M1, M2, and N1 — has been reduced from 100 km/h to 80 km/h on the affected stretch. Heavy goods vehicles in categories N2 and N3 face a significantly stricter limit, capped at 50 km/h.
Authorities cited accident prevention and improved road safety as the explicit rationale for the decision, describing the targeted segment as one of the highway's more congested and incident-prone sections.
The A373 is a key artery of eastern Uzbekistan, linking the capital with the densely populated Fergana Valley and carrying substantial volumes of both passenger and freight traffic daily. The 28-kilometer restricted zone represents a meaningful portion of the route through Tashkent region before the road descends toward Fergana.
No enforcement timeline or accompanying infrastructure measures — such as additional signage, speed cameras, or road works — were specified in the council's resolution.
