Uzbekistan Considers Restoring Cash Payments for Alcohol

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan is considering reintroducing cash payments for alcoholic beverages in restaurants and catering establishments, according to the head of the Tax Committee, Farrukh Pulatov.

Speaking during an open dialogue at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he said a draft regulatory document has been prepared to allow payments for alcohol in restaurants and cafés to be made not only via non-cash methods but also in cash. The proposal is currently undergoing inter-agency coordination.

Earlier, since 1 April 2026, Uzbekistan had introduced a framework under which several services, including alcohol sales, were primarily conducted through electronic payment systems.

The discussions also noted that, to improve convenience for foreign tourists, cash payments for the tourism fee have already been introduced in hotels.

The issue of easing payment regulations has previously been raised during open dialogues at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry with participation from tax consultants, auditors, and accountants.
