Uzbekistan, China Seek to Strengthen Interparliamentary Ties
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and China plan to strengthen interparliamentary cooperation and practical interaction within the Central Asia-China format, the Uzbek Senate’s Press Service said.
Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva held talks with a Chinese delegation led by Liu Haixing, head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
The sides discussed further development of parliamentary ties and practical cooperation within the Central Asia-China framework.
The meeting noted that political will and the strategic vision of the leaders of Uzbekistan and China have elevated bilateral relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership.
The participants positively assessed the growing number of mutual visits and contacts between the leaders and members of the legislative bodies of Uzbekistan and China. Particular attention was paid to the activities of the Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and the National People’s Congress of China.
To improve the effectiveness of parliamentary cooperation, Uzbekistan proposed making contacts between the heads of the two countries’ legislative bodies more regular. The sides also discussed strengthening interparliamentary cooperation groups and expanding interaction between specialized parliamentary committees.
Proposed areas of cooperation include exchanges of legislative experience, as well as joint parliamentary and expert events.
Uzbekistan also expressed interest in studying China’s experience in several areas, including regional development, poverty reduction, digitalization of public administration, development of the green economy, workforce training and promotion of innovation.
The sides separately exchanged views on further cooperation between political parties of the two countries.
The talks also highlighted the role of the Central Asia-China format in creating additional opportunities to strengthen peace and stability in the region and promote its sustainable development.
