Uzbekistan and UNFPA Discuss Expansion of Cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting was held in Bukhara on the sidelines of the Second Asian Women’s Forum between Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva and United Nations Under-Secretary-General and UNFPA Executive Director Diene Keita.
The discussions focused on the current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Nations Population Fund in the areas of gender equality, reproductive health, and support for women and youth.
Diene Keita highly appreciated the initiatives of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev aimed at improving public welfare and providing comprehensive support for women, mothers, and children. It was emphasized that these priorities fully align with UNFPA’s core principles and are reflected in its ongoing programs.
Special attention was given to ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan in maternal and child healthcare, modernization of the healthcare system, equipping medical institutions with modern technologies, and improving the quality of medical services.
The parties also discussed the training of qualified healthcare personnel and strengthening the professional capacity of medical workers, including expanding joint projects with UNFPA aimed at enhancing specialist training.
The meeting noted successful implementation in Uzbekistan of programs to strengthen family institutions, expand women’s rights and opportunities, digitize social and healthcare services, and improve legislation in the areas of family and youth policy.
In addition, the sides discussed reproductive health programs, the introduction of modern screening programs for women, digitalization of maternity services, training of healthcare personnel in line with international standards, and the development of digital platforms and mobile solutions to improve access to medical and advisory services for women and youth.
Both sides confirmed mutual interest in further expanding practical cooperation and implementing new joint initiatives.
