Uzbekistan and UNDP Sign Cooperation Agreement to Advance Green Economy

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — During a visit by the delegation of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Economy and Finance to New York (USA) for the ongoing United Nations High-Level Political Forum, an important agreement was reached.

As part of the forum, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Umid Abidkhadjaev and UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Regional Director for Europe and the CIS Ivana Živković signed a cooperation agreement to attract US$1.8 million in grant funding for the implementation of green economy projects in Uzbekistan.

The allocated grant funds will be used to implement projects in the following areas: conducting energy audits, improving energy efficiency in social sector facilities, sustainable development goal-oriented budgeting, and decarbonizing the cement industry.

Additionally, during the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the current joint projects between Uzbekistan and UNDP, their outcomes, and prospects for further cooperation.

The signed agreement is expected to strengthen Uzbekistan’s practical efforts toward developing a green economy and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
