Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka discuss expansion of economic cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, Shohruh Gulamov, held a meeting on 10 July 2026 with the Foreign Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Aruni Wijewardane (Ranaraja).
The two parties discussed the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for expanding trade and economic cooperation between the two nations.
During the negotiations, particular attention was paid to developing interaction in the sectors of tourism, agriculture, the textile industry, gemstone mining and trade, transport and logistics, pharmaceuticals, as well as the production of mineral fertilizers.
Furthermore, representatives of the two countries reviewed the possibility of establishing a Joint Intergovernmental Commission and a Business Council. These institutional mechanisms are expected to facilitate the coordination of practical projects and the further development of bilateral cooperation.
