Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan plan to expand cooperation between their parliaments and regional representative bodies, the press service of Uzbekistan's Senate of the Oliy Majlis said.

The issue was discussed by Senate Chairwoman Tanzila Narbayeva and Speaker of Kyrgyzstan's Jogorku Kenesh, Marlen Mamataliyev, on the sidelines of the 15th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TurkPA).

The two sides considered measures to strengthen their strategic partnership and allied relations, as well as improve the effectiveness of interparliamentary contacts.

The discussions covered stronger parliamentary oversight of the implementation of bilateral agreements, expanded cooperation between relevant parliamentary committees and exchanges of experience in legislative work. The officials also discussed the use of artificial intelligence in parliamentary activities.

Another priority was the development of ties between regions of the two countries, particularly in border areas.

The participants considered holding the first Regions Forum in Uzbekistan before the end of 2026, with all regions of the country taking part. The initiative builds on an earlier agreement to expand interregional cooperation.

Narbayeva and Mamataliyev also supported strengthening contacts in tourism, education and humanitarian affairs. Proposed measures included joint educational programmes, academic exchanges and regular visits by parliamentary delegations.

To advance cooperation, the sides proposed holding the next meeting of the Interparliamentary Commission in 2027 in either Namangan Region or Ferghana Region.

Relevant parliamentary committees, local representative bodies and business representatives are expected to participate in the meeting.
