Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and South Korea have discussed the next steps in implementing the Smart Bio Cluster investment project, which aims to develop pharmaceutical manufacturing and biotechnology.

The project was discussed by Abdulla Azizov, director of the Agency for the Development of the Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry, and Kim Bok-hwan, president of the Korea Overseas Infrastructure and Urban Development Corporation (KIND).

During the visit, the South Korean delegation inspected a 60-hectare site allocated for the cluster. The participants reviewed the concept for the future complex and discussed practical issues related to site preparation, functional zoning, the placement of production facilities and the construction of necessary infrastructure.

The visit programme also included a tour of GrandPharm, one of Uzbekistan’s largest pharmaceutical companies.

Company representatives briefed the delegation on its main areas of activity, including pharmaceutical logistics, product promotion, franchising, marketing and educational programmes.

The talks focused on coordinating the project’s next stages and expanding cooperation between the two countries in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.

The Smart Bio Cluster is envisioned as a platform for developing modern manufacturing facilities and attracting investment to these sectors of Uzbekistan’s economy.
