Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Agriculture Minister Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov met with Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), who is in the country on a working visit.

The talks were held ahead of the international forum “Food Security of Developing Landlocked Countries” and an international conference dedicated to World Cotton Day. Both events will take place in Tashkent on 7–8 October.

The sides exchanged views on reducing the negative impact of global climate change on agriculture and ensuring food security. They also considered priority areas of the agricultural sector requiring particular attention.

The meeting highlighted the effectiveness of projects implemented as part of cooperation between Uzbekistan and FAO. The sides agreed to consistently develop their cooperation and continue joint work in new areas.

The international forum is expected to bring together senior representatives of developing landlocked countries, international financial institutions, the scientific community, foreign experts and private-sector representatives.

The event will discuss pressing issues related to strengthening food security and adapting agriculture to climate change.
