Uzbekistan and Belarus sign food security cooperation deal
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan and Belarus have signed an agreement on cooperation in the food sector following talks held on 20 May between First Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Norkulov and a Belarusian delegation led by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Alexander Yakovchits.
The meeting was also attended by Senior Advisor of the Embassy of Belarus in Uzbekistan Ivan Tkachyov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan Kakhramon Yuldashev, and representatives of relevant agencies from both countries.
The sides discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the agro-industrial and food sectors. Particular attention was given to strengthening trade and economic ties, expanding mutual supplies of food products, and implementing joint projects.
A separate focus of the negotiations was placed on issues of food security, exchange of experience in agricultural product processing, and the development of practical cooperation between relevant ministries and agencies of Uzbekistan and Belarus.
Following the meeting, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus, the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan signed a trilateral agreement on cooperation in the food sector.
As noted, the document is aimed at further developing bilateral partnership, strengthening food security, expanding trade and economic cooperation, and promoting joint initiatives in the agricultural sector.
