Uzbekistan Airports receives Airport Carbon Accreditation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan Airports has received the international Airport Carbon Accreditation, the only globally recognized carbon management certification program designed specifically for airports.
Within the framework of the program, the international airports of Samarkand, Urgench, Namangan, Fergana, Nukus, Termez, Karshi, and Navoi received Level 1 accreditation, confirming that they have mapped and independently verified their operational carbon emissions.
Tashkent International Airport received Level 2 accreditation, becoming the first and so far only airport in Central Asia to achieve this level due to the implementation of measures to actively reduce its carbon footprint.
Airport Carbon Accreditation is a phased assessment system that allows airports to consistently improve their greenhouse gas emissions management.
Major global aviation hubs already participate in the program, including London Heathrow, Amsterdam Schiphol, Singapore Changi, Seoul Incheon, and Tokyo Narita, which have been progressively raising their accreditation levels over several years.
By joining the program, Uzbekistan Airports has become part of the international sustainable development system and intends to continue working toward higher accreditation levels as part of its long-term decarbonization strategy.
"Achieving Airport Carbon Accreditation marks an important milestone in the sustainable transformation of the Uzbekistan Airports network. While this recognition is of great significance to us, we view it as the beginning of a long-term journey to further strengthen sustainable development and improve environmental performance. We are committed to continuously improving our emissions management practices in line with international best practices," stated Javlonbek Umarkhodjaev, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Airports.
Owned and managed by ACI EUROPE, the Airport Carbon Accreditation program is the international industry standard for airport carbon emissions management.
The independent verification system helps airports measure, control, and consistently reduce their carbon emissions as they progress toward long-term decarbonization goals.
