Uzbek Official Appointed Secretary General of TRACECA
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An Uzbek representative has been elected to a key leadership position in the Transport Corridor Europe–Caucasus–Asia (TRACECA) following the 18th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission held in Astana.
Deputy Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Jasurbek Choriev was appointed Secretary General of TRACECA after a vote by participating member states.
The meeting was attended by Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov, Deputy Minister Jasurbek Choriev, and National TRACECA Coordinator from Uzbekistan Bekzod Kholmatov. A central agenda item was the election of the organization’s leadership, where Uzbekistan’s nominee received broad support from member countries.
The appointment is seen as recognition of Uzbekistan’s growing role in regional transport connectivity and international logistics routes.
A key outcome of the meeting was the signing of an intergovernmental agreement on a unified transit permit form among Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, and Ukraine.
The agreement introduces a single permit for transit transport across participating countries without the need for additional authorizations, which is expected to reduce administrative barriers and accelerate cargo movement along the corridor.
During the session, Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov also presented several initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency of the transport corridor.
These include the digitalization of transport procedures and a shift to paperless transit, elimination of infrastructure and administrative bottlenecks, improvement of the regulatory framework in line with international standards, and attraction of international financing in the form of grants and concessional loans.
The meeting concluded with decisions aimed at further developing the Europe–Caucasus–Asia transport corridor and strengthening cooperation among participating states.
