Uzbek gets fined in eastern district for conducting religious training

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A follower of the unregistered Baptist community, an employee of the Terminal-2 enterprise, Odiljon Solijonov, has been fined in Pop District of Uzbekistan’s Namangan Region.

According to the source, Solijonov, who has no special spiritual education or official permission, conducted religious training for employees of the enterprise where he worked. “Interior officers have uncovered his activities on promoting ideas and doctrines of evangelical Baptist Christians among the employees,” the source said.

In line with the law “On freedom of worship and religious organizations”a, activities aimed at converting believers of one religion to another (proselytism) and any kind of missionary activities are officially prohibited in Uzbekistan, the source said.
