UN and SCO sign joint declaration

United Nations and Shanghai Cooperation Organization today, 5 April 2010, signed a declaration of cooperation in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and SCO Secretary General Muratbek Imanaliev signed the document.
The declaration envisages cooperation between two organizations in various directions, including in security issues.
Ban Ki-moon underlined that partnership between the UN and the SCO will give new stimulus in combating terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and trans-boundary crime.
As earlier reported, on 18 December 2009, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution "Cooperation between the United Nations Organization and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization" with consensus.
