Uzbekistan Approves Law on Military Status
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan has adopted in the second reading a draft law “On the Status of Servicemen and Their Social Protection” and forwarded it to the Senate.
The document is aimed at defining the legal status of servicemen, regulating their rights, freedoms, duties and responsibilities, as well as establishing unified approaches to issues of social and legal protection of active and former servicemen and their family members.
It is noted that in recent years Uzbekistan has been carrying out large-scale work to strengthen the social protection of servicemen, improve service conditions, and ensure guarantees of their rights and legitimate interests. The draft law continues these reforms and establishes a unified legal mechanism in this area.
The document provides provisions on financial support for servicemen, provision of medical services, housing guarantees, mandatory state insurance, and pension provision. It also establishes compensation in cases of injury or death in the line of duty.
Separate measures of social support for servicemen’s families are also provided, including access to medical services, organization of education and rehabilitation for children, as well as state guarantees for families of servicemen who died or became disabled.
During the second reading, the relevant committee examined proposals from deputies and provisions of existing legislation. It is noted that a significant number of proposals were taken into account in the revision of the draft law.
Following the discussion, deputies supported the document, stressing that its adoption will strengthen the legal status of servicemen, increase the level of social guarantees and enhance the prestige of military service in the country.
