Tashkent Seizes Undeclared Medicines Worth 400m Soums

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Law enforcement authorities in Tashkent have seized nearly 11,900 medicines of questionable origin worth about 400 million soums. The medicines lacked the required accompanying documents. The Customs Committee reported the seizure.

Officers from the Main Directorate for Combating Smuggling of the Customs Committee conducted the operation jointly with representatives of the State Security Service and the National Guard.

During an inspection of a private house in Shaykhantahur district, officers found 11,848 units of 28 types of foreign-made medicines without the required accompanying documents.

A further inspection of another suspect’s vehicle uncovered 20 units of medicines without documents confirming their quality and legal origin.

In total, 11,868 units of 29 types of medicines were removed from illegal circulation. Their preliminary value was estimated at about 400 million soums.

All the medicines were placed in temporary storage as material evidence. A pre-investigation inquiry is underway.
