Anti-Corruption Operations Sting Officials in Andijan and Kashkadarya
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Officers of the State Security Service, together with the Department under the Prosecutor General's Office and internal affairs agencies, have disrupted two corruption offenses in the Andijan and Kashkadarya regions. Criminal cases have been initiated in connection with both incidents, and investigative actions are ongoing.
In the Andijan region, the head of a district branch of Andijan Suv Taminoti JSC, according to investigators, used his official position to demand US$8,500 from a citizen born in 1983.
In exchange for this sum, he promised to use his contacts among officials to help obtain a permit to connect a new home to the sewerage system and install a sewage pump.
The suspect was detained during an operational action while receiving the funds through an intermediary.
In the Kashkadarya region, law enforcement officers detained a laboratory technician from the HIV diagnostic laboratory of a district division under the regional Center for AIDS Control and Prevention. According to investigators, he received US$3,000 after promising to use his contacts among officials to secure an expert opinion in favor of a citizen born in 1996.
During subsequent operational activities, the head of the district department of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Forensic Medical Expertise was also detained. Law enforcement agencies reported that he received US$2,500 from the laboratory technician.
Investigative actions are continuing for both cases.
