Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Changes in the colour, smell and clarity of hot water reported by residents of five districts in Tashkent may be linked to repair and adjustment work on heating networks ahead of the 2026–2027 autumn-winter season.
According to a preliminary assessment by specialists, the changes may have occurred as pipelines were refilled with water following maintenance. During pressure testing, the connection of individual network sections and equipment adjustments, water circulation can slow down, allowing accumulated salts and corrosion particles inside pipes to enter the water flow again.
As a result, hot water may temporarily change in colour, smell and clarity. Residents have reported an odour resembling kerosene or chemicals.
Laboratory tests found no substances in the water that could negatively affect public health. Specialists also noted that an unusual smell alone does not indicate the presence of toxic substances or petroleum products.
Tashkent’s heating system is currently operating normally, and hot water is being supplied to consumers as usual. Scheduled repair and adjustment work is continuing as part of preparations for the winter season.
