Tashkent, Delhi plan to establish sister city ties
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to India, Sardor Rustambaev, held a meeting with the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, to discuss prospects for expanding interregional cooperation between Uzbekistan and India, Dunyo News Agency reports.
During the negotiations, the sides noted that the centuries-old friendly relations between the peoples of the two countries have seen consistent development and new substance in recent years.
The participants paid special attention to developing interaction between the capitals of both states. They discussed prospects for expanding contacts between representatives of business, scientific-academic, and other circles of Tashkent and Delhi.
The two sides also considered the possibility of establishing official sister city (twin city) relations between the two capitals. They emphasized that exchanging experience in municipal management, urban improvement, landscaping, and the creation of modern urban infrastructure, among other pressing issues, is of deep mutual interest.
The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi supported proposals from the Embassy of Uzbekistan to establish an "Uzbekistan" park in the Indian capital and to install a monument dedicated to the great Uzbek poet and thinker Alisher Navoi, expressing readiness for joint implementation of these projects.
Furthermore, the parties discussed organizing delegation exchanges between the Khokimiyat (municipal administration) of Tashkent and the office of the Delhi Lieutenant Governor, preparing joint initiatives, and holding events in science, culture, tourism, sports, and other cooperative fields.
