Tashkent Court Clarifies Appeal Issues in Real Sanjik Case
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Tashkent City Court has commented on media reports claiming that an appeal filed by one of the lawyers of Sanjar Karimov, known as Real Sanjik, was allegedly not accepted by the court. The court stated that the review of the criminal case in the appellate court will resume on 20 July 2026.
According to the court's press service, the criminal case against Sanjar Karimov is being reviewed on appeal by the Judicial Panel for Criminal Cases of the Tashkent City Court following the ruling of the court of first instance.
The clarification was prompted by publications citing one of the defendant's defense lawyers, Oybek Ashurov, which claimed the court had rejected his appeal, causing the hearings to be repeatedly postponed.
The city court stated that prior to one of the previous sessions, the trial was indeed postponed after the lawyer raised relevant arguments. However, an investigation revealed that the electronic appeal was submitted to the district court on 30 June 2026, and not on 18 May 2026 as previously claimed.
According to the court, the legally established deadline had already expired by the time the appeal was submitted. At the same time, the verdict had not yet entered into legal force, as the case was already under review in the appellate court based on timely appeals submitted by the defendant's other defense lawyers.
Taking these circumstances into account, the judicial panel granted Oybek Ashurov's motion to restore the missed deadline for filing the appeal. Following this, the lawyer continued to participate in the case proceedings along with the other defense counsel.
The court's press service emphasized that the role of the legal defense in the administration of justice is of particular importance and deserves respect. However, the court believes that lawyers should refrain from presenting their own legal assessments through the media as indisputable facts, as this can mislead the public.
The next court hearing to review the appeal is scheduled for 20 July 2026.
On 8 May 2026, the Mirzo-Ulugbek District Criminal Court found Sanjar Karimov guilty of fraud, threats of murder or violence, and offenses related to the illegal possession of narcotics and psychotropic substances, sentencing him to five years in prison.
